About Bujumbura Green City
The Gem of Burundi
Our Mission
To build a thriving, sustainable urban community near the shores of Lake Tanganyika where unity, development, and prosperity converge — creating a model for environmentally responsible living that uplifts families, attracts investment, and advances Burundi's Vision 2040-2060.
We are not just building homes. We are building proof that modern development and environmental stewardship can coexist. That economic opportunity and community cohesion can reinforce each other. That Burundi's path to emergence by 2040 and development by 2060 includes world-class, green urbanism rooted in shared prosperity.
Bujumbura Green City is Vision 2040-2060 made tangible — a city that demonstrates what "emerging country" looks like on the ground.

Built on Three Pillars
Like the ancient tripod that stood firm on uneven ground, Bujumbura Green City rests on three pillars: Unity, Development, and Prosperity. Each pillar is essential. Remove one, and balance is lost. Strength comes from their interconnection.
Here, near the shores of Lake Tanganyika, we are building more than homes — we are building a living model of what becomes possible when a community commits to rising together.
Unity
The foundation
Development
The Structure
Prosperity
The Outcome
No city can rise without shared purpose.
Unity is our first pillar because every brick laid, every tree planted, every family that moves in becomes part of a larger story. This is not a collection of isolated houses — it is a community woven together by common vision, where neighbors become networks of support and individual success strengthens the whole. From the Burundian diaspora returning home to local families planting roots, every resident contributes to the collective future.
Unity means:
Collaboration over division —
Residents, entrepreneurs, and leaders moving forward together as co-creators.
Participation over exclusion —
A city open to the diaspora, local families, and partners committed to sustainability.
Shared vision over isolated ambition — Building opportunity for the many, not wealth for the few.
A city built in unity becomes resilient. When challenges arise, a unified community adapts, solves problems collectively, and protects what it has built together.
Unity is the social contract that makes everything else possible.
Progress is intentional. Growth is strategic.
Development is the pillar of transformation — the physical city rising from the earth with infrastructure, innovation, and green systems that make Bujumbura Green City a model for sustainable urbanism in Africa.
Development means:
Smart urban planning —
Over 3,000 homes designed as integrated neighborhoods, not sprawl. A gated community that fosters safety while encouraging interaction.
Sustainable infrastructure —
Waste and water recycling systems. Green energy integration. Urban design that works with nature, not against it.
Economic opportunity —
Spaces where entrepreneurs build businesses, local contractors gain skills, and the city creates livelihoods, not just shelter.
Future-ready systems —
Infrastructure built to serve generations. Energy systems, water management, roads and services designed with foresight and commitment to quality.
Development gives the city its form. But it must be development that lasts.
When unity and development work together, prosperity follows. Prosperity is the natural result of people working together with vision and the infrastructure to support that vision. It cannot exist without the social cohesion of unity or the physical foundation of development.
Prosperity means:
Jobs and thriving businesses —
Over 10,000 jobs during construction and 3,000 permanent opportunities after completion. A city where entrepreneurs can open shops in the commercial district, professionals find opportunity, and young people don't have to leave to build a future.
Financial security —
Homeownership across three housing categories. Property values that appreciate over time in a well-planned, sustainable community. Stable neighborhoods where families invest with confidence.
Education and upward mobility —
Access to schools within the development, safer gated neighborhoods, and pathways for children to rise. The commercial district will include educational facilities designed to serve both residents and the wider metropolitan area.
True prosperity is when a rising city lifts everyone in its orbit.

The Meaning of the Three Together
Unity creates trust.
Development creates opportunity.
Prosperity creates stability.
These three pillars do not stand alone. They reinforce each other.
Without unity, development becomes contested, uneven, extractive.
Without development, unity has no vehicle for transformation.
Without prosperity, both unity and development lose their purpose.
Together, they form a balanced system:
Social strength. Structural progress. Economic vitality.
Just as a three-legged foundation stands firm on uneven ground,
Bujumbura Green City stands secure when all three pillars are equally strong.
Why Lake Tanganyika? Why Kizingwe?
We are building near the shores of one of the world's great lakes, in a region of extraordinary natural beauty and strategic importance. Lake Tanganyika is the second-oldest freshwater lake in the world and one of Burundi's greatest natural treasures.
Kizingwe, Bujumbura-Mairie offers proximity to the capital's infrastructure while maintaining access to open space, clean air, and natural beauty. Close enough to attract professionals and businesses, yet far enough to build something new — without the congestion of unplanned urban growth.
To build here means development must be worthy of its setting. Green City builds in harmony with a landscape that has sustained life for millennia.
Who Is This For?
The Burundian Diaspora
Those who left seeking opportunity but never stopped loving home. Burundi's Vision 2040-2060 recognizes the critical role of the diaspora in national development. This is your chance to be part of that transformation — investing in Burundi's future while securing a home built to modern standards.
You carry skills, capital, and global perspectives gained abroad. Bujumbura Green City offers you a way to channel that back into the country you've never forgotten. Whether you're planning to return permanently, retire in Burundi, or simply want a secure property for your family, this is an investment in both heritage and future. You're not just buying real estate — you're helping to build the Burundi you always hoped to see.
Local Families
Parents seeking safety, cleanliness, and quality education for their children. Professionals who want neighborhoods that reflect their aspirations. Entrepreneurs looking for a stable base to build from.
You work hard, you plan for your family's future, and you deserve a community that matches your values. You're tired of compromising between affordability and quality, between location and security. Bujumbura Green City offers gated safety without isolation, modern amenities without sacrificing community, and a neighborhood where your children can play freely while you build your career or business. This is the Bujumbura you've been waiting for — clean, organized, and forward-thinking.
International Investors
Those who see Africa's urban future and want to shape it responsibly. Partners who value sustainability, smart planning, and long-term returns.
You understand that Africa's urbanization is not a question of if but how. You've seen rapid development done poorly — sprawling, polluting, extractive. You're looking for something different: a project with environmental integrity, competent partners, and alignment with national priorities. Bujumbura Green City offers you a stake in Burundi's emergence with transparent governance, credible partnerships (Facet, Jeni-Eco, BDUSA), and a development model designed to appreciate over decades, not just years.
Anyone Who Believes Cities Can Be Better
If you believe growth doesn't have to mean pollution, that development doesn't have to mean displacement, that prosperity can be shared — Bujumbura Green City is for you.
You're the kind of person who sees a problem and asks, "Why does it have to be this way?" You've watched cities grow in ways that benefit a few while burdening the many. You believe that with the right vision, the right partners, and the right commitment, urban development can be different. Bujumbura Green City is proof that you're right. This is what responsible growth looks like. This is what happens when a community decides that everyone's future matters.
Our Commitment
Environmental Stewardship — A Comprehensive Approach to Sustainable Development
We align with Burundi's Vision 2040-2060 — a long-term development framework aiming to transform the country into an emerging economy by 2040 and a developed nation by 2060 — particularly its target of 99% renewable energy production, integrating solar and clean energy solutions into our infrastructure.
But our environmental commitment goes far beyond energy. We are building a comprehensive sustainable development model that addresses every aspect of urban ecology:
Energy Systems — Solar power integration across residential and common areas, energy-efficient building designs that reduce consumption, and infrastructure prepared for future renewable energy advancements.
Water Management — Advanced water recycling systems that treat and reuse greywater for irrigation and non-potable purposes, rainwater harvesting infrastructure, and water-efficient fixtures throughout the development to protect our proximity to Lake Tanganyika.
Waste Systems — Comprehensive waste recycling and composting programs built into the community design, waste-to-energy possibilities for organic materials, and education programs to ensure residents understand and participate in circular waste management.
Green Infrastructure — Extensive green spaces and parks that serve as carbon sinks, native plant species that require minimal water and support local biodiversity, permeable surfaces that prevent runoff and erosion, and urban forestry that provides shade, improves air quality, and creates wildlife corridors.
Sustainable Building Materials — Locally sourced materials where possible to reduce transportation emissions, durable construction that minimizes long-term maintenance and replacement needs, and materials selected for their environmental footprint across their entire lifecycle.
Climate Resilience — Building designs that account for changing climate patterns, natural cooling and ventilation to reduce energy needs, and infrastructure that can withstand extreme weather events while minimizing environmental impact.

"A COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT"
This is not greenwashing. Every decision — from site preparation to final finishes — is evaluated for environmental impact. We are proving that urban development near one of the world's great lakes can be done responsibly, that growth and ecology can coexist, and that Burundi can lead Africa in sustainable city building.
Quality and Transparency
We build to last. Cutting corners creates long-term problems. We use quality materials, experienced contractors, and rigorous oversight because homes built right the first time save money and frustration over decades.
Community Building
We design spaces for interaction and shared experience — the social bonds that turn neighbors into networks of support.
A collection of houses is not a community. We intentionally create gathering spaces: parks where children play together, walking paths where neighbors meet, community centers for celebrations and meetings, and commercial areas where local businesses can thrive. These spaces are not afterthoughts — they are central to our design because we know that the real value of a neighborhood comes from the relationships formed within it.
Economic Inclusion
We have partnered with an international construction firm with proven experience building in tropical highland climate regions like Burundi. This partnership is intentionally structured to build Burundian capacity: the international firm will work closely with Burundian construction companies who will provide the labor workforce and supervise operations. Through this collaboration, Burundian workers and companies will learn to meet international standards in construction, green building techniques, and project management.
This is not extraction — it is knowledge transfer. Development should build capacity, not just buildings. Every phase of construction becomes a training ground where Burundian workers gain skills they can use throughout their careers and apply to future projects across the country.
The economic impact is substantial: this project will create over 10,000 jobs during construction and generate approximately 3,000 permanent job opportunities after completion through businesses, services, property management, and ongoing community operations. We prioritize local supply chains, connecting Burundian businesses to the project for materials, services, and long-term contracts. When construction is complete, the skills, relationships, and economic networks remain — strengthening Burundi's capacity for future development and proving that large-scale projects can uplift local communities.
Long-Term Thinking
We are building a city that will stand for generations, that will become a landmark, that will make Burundi proud.
We are not building for a quick sale or short-term profit. Every infrastructure decision considers durability over decades. We think about the families who will live here in 2050, the businesses that will operate here in 2060, and the legacy this development will leave for Burundi. This city will be a point of pride — proof that Burundian projects can meet international standards, that sustainable development works, and that when done right, growth benefits everyone.
